Masia d´en Giralt is a beautiful and impressive 18th century Catalan country house, listed by the Catalan Government as a building of architectural and cultural interest.
The original farm was established in 1722 by Mr. Giralt, a landowner from the south of France, who recognised the potential to grow grapes and produce wine along the Catalan coast, taking advantage of the strong winemaking tradition established in the area since the time of the Phoenicians.
Masia d´en Giralt has been inhabited continuously since that time, with the latest restoration completed in 2006. Mas d’en Giralt has original outbuildings and an ancient chapel dedicated to various saints, complete with frescoes dating from 1828 showing images of St. James, St. Thomas Aquinas, La Virgen del Carmen, the Virgin of Montserrat, Santa Barbara, the Immaculate Virgin and San Antonio de Padua.
Mas d’en Giralt was constructed using local materials sourced from the surrounding land. Stone was used from the limestone quarry located on the property, and pine beams produced from wood taken from the forests surrounding the house.
In recent years the owners have worked to make the house as eco-friendly and self-sufficient as possible through the installation of solar electricity and rainwater recycling. The electrics in the Masia run on solar power and are backed up by a high powered generator.
The gas cooker, hot water and heating run independently with Gasoil and Gas. This gives you the eco-friendly experience whilst making sure that all the creature comforts are met.
The gardens have been stocked with native plants and 167 different medicinal plants have been catalogued by an ethnobotanical research
Mas d’en Giralt nestles in a truly privileged position amongst vineyards just north of Sant Pere de Ribes and only 10kms from the beaches of Sitges. The house enjoys a beautiful rural setting in the Garraf Natural Park, surrounded by pine forests and vineyards growing the white Mediterranean native strains used in the production of the renowned Penedès red and white wines.
