Great Places To Eat In And Around Sitges
Some of the Sitges Hills Villas team favourites!
It’s always difficult when guests ask the Sitges Hills Villas team for recommendations of a ‘good’ restaurant, simply because eating out is such a subjective experience. There are so many different factors that can make or break a meal other than just the quality of food, and everyone has their own take on these. In addition, the restaurant scene in Sitges is very vibrant with new venues opening up all the time, and this makes it almost impossible to have an informed opinion on all potential options.
Instead, we are much more comfortable telling guests where we enjoy eating in Sitges. We’re not suggesting these are great restaurants worthy of a good food guide, but just places where we enjoy eating, and where we think you get decent food, polite service and value for money.
With so many eating places to choose from in and around Sitges, we thought it would be a great idea to give our guests a starting point by compiling a list of the restaurants that the Sitges Hills Villas team enjoy eating in. So we asked around the office and a few of our home owners for some suggestions of places where they like to eat and the results of the survey are listed below. This is a work in progress rather than a final list and we will be adding new venues as and when they are recommended to us, so make sure you check back again at a later date for new ideas.
[Please note that none of our team have any affiliation with any of the restaurants mentioned below, we just love eating there. The restaurants are listed in no particular order.]
1. LA SANTA MARIA
[Passeig de la Ribera, 52, 08870 Sitges – Tel: +34 938 94 09 99]
‘An established family favourite right on the seafront’
This highly popular restaurant pops up many times in conversations with guests. Situated on the ground floor of a traditional old hotel, the restaurant has a large open terrace located right opposite Sitges sea front.
It’s a great place to eat and the varied menu means there is usually something for everyone. The wide choice of meals, reasonable prices and relaxed attitude to children make it a very popular choice with families. We’ve always found the staff to be friendly and efficient, even during the busiest times.
The Sitges Hills Villas team verdict “We think La Santa Maria is a great choice for good quality yet inexpensive food in a fantastic setting, and we particularly recommend it for families.”
2. EL DONOSTIARRA
[14 C/ Nou, 08870 Sitges, Spain Tel: +34 938102262]
‘The best tapas in Sitges’
If you love tapas then you will be spoilt for choice in Sitges as there are a number of excellent tapas restaurants ranging from the traditional to the modern.
However, a big favourite with the SHV team is El Donostiaarra, located in one of the attractive old streets that run up from the seafront close to the church. The décor is typical Basque and the food is good quality and very reasonably priced. The extensive wine list has some excellent Riojas.
The staff are always friendly and efficient and most evenings the atmosphere is excellent. The clientel are a vibrant mix of tourists and locals and it is usually busy most evenings. Weekend evenings can get very busy after about 8pm so it’s best to go before then if you don’t want to have to fight to get to the tapas.
The Sitges Hills Villas team verdict “Great atmosphere and, we think, the best tapas in town. Definitaly worth a visit, even if just for a quick pre-dinner drink and a couple of tapas sticks.”
3. BIG AL’S
[Carrer Sant Bonaventura 5, Sitges and Carrer Santa Tecla 5, Sitges – Tel: +34 93 811 06 24]
‘The best burgers in Spain, it’s official!’
Big Al’s American burger restaurant is a huge favourite with locals and tourists alike. Recently voted by Tripadvisor as the best burger in Spain, there are now two Big Al’s in Sitges – one in the centre and one near the beach. Big Al’s serves delicious burgers at a reasonable price and with a great selection of local craft beers to wash them down with.
It’s now so popular that it’s not uncommon to see people queuing outside. Big Al’s don’t take reservations and work on a first-come-first-served basis. The waiting list opens every day at 1pm for lunch and 8pm for dinner.
The Sitges Hills Villas team verdict: “If you fancy a change from the local cuisine, or maybe just crave a great burger, then we think it’s definitely worth queuing for the Big Al experience!”
4. LA TRATTO
[Av. de les Flors, 6, 08870 Sitges – Tel: +34 938 94 30 01]
‘Generous helpings of delicious fusion food’
La Tratto is situated a little off the beaten track on the other side of the train station but we think it’s well worth a visit for something a little different.
The Mediterranean/Middle Eastern fusion menu is varied and very good value for money and there is always a good selection of dishes for vegetarians. The lunchtime set menus are very well priced.
The Sitges Hills Villas team verdict: “We love the unpretentious atmosphere, the friendly staff, and the generous helpings of delicious fusion food.”
5. SKY BAR (Avenida Sofia Hotel & Spa)
[Avenida Sofia, 12 Sitges – Tel: +34 93 811 35 00]
‘Rooftop terrace with stunning views’
The Sky Bar at the Avenida Sofia Hotel is possibly the most spectacular place to eat in Sitges. This smart and stylish bar/restauarant has amazing views of Sitges and the sea and serves excellent food. It even has its own sunken swimming pool for guests to enjoy a cooling dip.
Surpisingly, for a venue like this the food is very good value. For example, you can enjoy a large Lobster salad or a delicious Galician burger with fries for around 9 euros. Later in the evening there is a more ‘clubby’ feel with a DJ and spectacular lighting effects. It’s a popular evening venue so it’s advisable to book for dinner.
The Sitges Hills Villas team verdict: “It would be hard to find a more spectacular place to eat in Sitges than the Sky Bar.”
6. LA PARRILLA DEL POU NOU
[Calle Pou Nou, 2, 08811 Canyelles. – Tel: +34 938 97 30 32]
‘Typical Catalan cuisine with a twist of Argentina’
A big favourite for lunch is La Parilla del Pou Nou, just off the C15 road in Canyelles. If you are staying in any of our villas in the Mas Mestre, Las Colinas and Cas Suria areas then we would recommend trying this place as it’s only a 5 minute drive. If you are staying in Sitges it’s about 10 minutes by car. Housed in a charming old Catalan building, this attractive restaurant is run by a friendly Argentinian couple offering typical Catalan food but with a distinct Argentinian touch.
As you would expect, grilled meats feature heavily on the menu and they also offer a selection of Argentinian wines as well as offerings from local vineyards. The service is usually excellent and the food is consistently good value for money. Pou Nou opens from 9am to 4pm for breakfast and lunch and offers menus starting at under 10 euros. Reservations are not usually required during the week but might be advisable for weekend lunchtimes.
The Sitges Hills Villas team verdict “Give La Parilla del Pou Nou a try for a tasty Argentianian style lunch in a quiet out of town area.”
