(SPAIN) 24th November, 2011 – The popular Bohemian seaside resort of Sitges is no stranger to crowds of holiday makers and day-trippers, however, the town is literally swamped during Carnival week when over a quarter of a million people from all over the world descend on the town for a week of parades and parties.

The Sitges Carnival festivities start on the Thursday before Lent with the arrival of the King of the 'Carnestoltes', and then finish with the Burial of the Sardine on Ash Wednesday.

The highlight of the week is without doubt the main parades that take place on the Sunday and Tuesday and feature more than 3,000 costumed masqueraders and up to 50 floats booming music from their giant speakers.
